Edinburgh Fringe 2026 - Spotlight On: Escape Room: The Musical

This 'Edinburgh Fringe - Spotlight On' series takes a look at the shows I will be reviewing at this year's festival and a 5-question Q&A with the creative teams. 

Synopsis: A puzzle wrapped in an enigma wrapped in a musical! Six friends find themselves in an escape room that seems to be raising emotions high and adrenaline higher. They have 60 minutes to escape or who knows what might be revealed? 

Who will solve the room and who will fold under the pressure?! 

Original songs, crazy characters and puzzling puzzles aplenty. 

A must see for any escape room or musical theatre lover!

Q&A With Thomas Rolph (Writer)

Q: What inspired you to create this show?

A: I was handing out my murder mystery tour of the fringe, Murder on the Mile, (which is sort of a portable escape room) and the idea just came to me…and seemed like a lot of fun!

Q: What can audiences expect when they come to see the show at Edinburgh Fringe?

A: Audiences can expect lots of jazzy tunes, some hilarious characters and plenty of puzzles.

The show has a couple of messages, but I would come in expecting a story about friendship, as well as being true to the person that you are…in and out of escape rooms. 3 Words: Fun jazzy times!

Q: What makes this show unique or different from other shows at the Fringe?

A:  I love to think of shows with an exciting pull for audiences and Escape Room: The Musical, seemed like just that. Everyone loves escape rooms and I felt it just wasn’t being utilised as a setting for a musical!

Q: What has been the most exciting part of bringing this production to Edinburgh Fringe?

A: The show has performed last year at the Edinburgh Fringe with a completely different plot - we had plenty of feedback from reviewers and audiences and took it all on board to make a show we are very proud of.

Q: Why should audiences add your show to their Fringe schedule this year?

A: People should come see our show if they love escape rooms, musicals or having a fun old time!
