I need to see the full version of this production as soon as possible! What a fun show this is!!

When Sharon Hargreaves goes down a massive conspiracy theory rabbit hole at 3am, she decides to convince her best friend Debs (Emma Thornett) to head to Vegas to see Adele… but it just so happens that the 25th Annual Flat Earth Convention is taking place there at the same time. Off they go, suitcases in hand… and somehow Sharon ends up being mistaken for a well-known flat earth online guru and proceeds to lead an expedition to the end of the earth to prove once and for all that the world is indeed flat.

The plot is bizarre, but I absolutely fell in love with it. When we meet Sharon (Emma Norman), it’s clear she’s struggling — bored in her marriage to her husband (played by Michael Joseph), and the death of her dog has not helped the situation. She needs something to pull her out of her blues and sees this as the perfect opportunity to take a chance and go on an adventure… although admittedly, she perhaps gets more of an adventure than she intended. Joined by the over-enthusiastic pair of Brodie (Leonie Wall) and Bobby (Tom Dickerson), it is a hilarious and heartwarming story.

The cast of five is absolutely fantastic throughout the show, with several actors taking on multiple roles seamlessly throughout the production. Alexander Moneypenny and Adam Turffrey’s songs are catchy and support the plot well — there are definitely some songs in there that will remain in your head long after you leave the theatre.

The characters are all well written — you really get a sense of who they are and what they’re all going through. There’s a real sense that the draw for Sharon to this flat earth society is the sense of community, friendship and support — which is exactly what she needs considering her current situation at home. Similarly, Debs has her own struggles which really come through.

Leonie Wall plays two completely different characters — literally and in terms of their personalities — with high-energy Brodie contrasting brilliantly with Angela, an over-the-top character who is furious that Angela has stolen her spotlight. Tom Dickerson and Michael Joseph also do a great job playing a variety of different characters throughout the show.

The lighting supports the show well — I was particularly impressed when the team eventually got to the ice wall. The portrayal of such an icy and cold setting was really captured well by the lighting design.

I would love to see the full version of this show. It’s hilarious, heartwarming and wonderfully bizarre… and I loved every minute of it. I look forward to seeing where this one goes next — with some further tightening, I think this show can do really well.
